OBJECTIVES OF EDUCATION

Objectives of educational development has always been a major controversy among analyst and policy makers. Some believe that education is a means of enriching individual knowledge and to develop their personality in full while, others are of the opinion that education should seek to prepare individual in other to perform their role in transforming their society. Therefore, public policies on education must take the needs of the society in terms of developing human capital into full account since there are limited resources for the developmental growth. Investment in human capital is essential in other to increase employ ability which brings about economic prosperity and social welfare.

DEFINITION OF EDUCATION

(B. Fafunwa 1979) defines education “as the aggregate of all the process by which a child or adult develops the abilities, attitudes and other forms of behaviour which are of positive values to the society in which he lives, that is to say, it is a process of disseminating knowledge either to engine social control or to guarantee rational direction of the society or both”.

LAGOS STATE, NIGERIA

Lagos state was the former capital of Nigeria during this period Lagos is been administered by the Federal Government, with Ikeja, Agege, Mushin, Ikorodu, Epe and Badagry as part of the then Western Region. Created by Decree No. 14 of 1967 through which Nigeria was restructured into 12 states. The states lies in the South-West of Nigeria bounded with Ogun state in the North and East, in the West by Republic of Benin while the Atlantic Ocean. With Ikeja as the capital and a population of over 10,000 000 about 787sq. kilometers out of its 3,577 sq. kilometers as lagoon and creeks.
